Breastfeeding Essentials: How Staying Hydrated Boosts Milk Production!
my breastfeeding and hydration journey
Making it a year breastfeeding is one of my most significant accomplishments. It was HARD! After a couple of successful months of keeping my baby fed and freezer stocked, my supply dropped dramatically upon my return to work.
Immediately, I searched the web for anything that might boost my supply and was overwhelmed by-products and advertisements. The algorithms knew where and how to hit me where it hurts.
My husband saw my spiraling, and with his help, we decided to detach from the toxic social media sound chamber surrounding me and get back to basics.
My husband was a college athlete who, with the support of his naturopathic doctor, had healed himself from some significant injuries. His healing journey centered around correcting the imbalances in his body; his first step was becoming hydrated.
Though he drank a gallon of water daily and focused on his diet and lifestyle, his body wasn't healing. He was missing the minerals essential for hydration. He was dehydrated.
He was drinking a gallon of water a day and was dehydrated!
The Olympic Sport of Pregnancy - Why Staying Hydrated is Key to Nourishing Your Little One
Now, name something that isn't an Olympic sport but feels like an Olympic sport. Pregnancy. Through my husband's eyes, I was able to witness the incredible changes my body was navigating, healing from pregnancy and a challenging pandemic birth while providing our son with life-sustaining and nourishing milk.
From this realization, we decided to lean on what he had learned healing from his collegiate injuries and get back to basics naturopathically by focusing on adding minerals to my water and adequately hydrating.
As he suspected, I was dehydrated too. Breastfeeding and hydration go hand in hand. In order for my body to function and perform optimally, i needed daily hydration.
Liquid Hydration Supplement was Key
Through our Naturopathic doctor's mentorship, my husband formulated a liquid mineral concentrate that matched our body's sodium-potassium pump, causing hydration on a cellular level.
Remember, he was drinking a gallon of water a day and was still dehydrated. That’s because the water nowadays is free from essential minerals and doesn’t always reach the cellular level.
Words can not explain the relief I felt once my electrolytes were balanced. My milk supply was back up, and our freezer stash was growing, all thanks to three minerals: sodium, potassium, and magnesium.
Being well-hydrated as a new mom was a game changer. Though my sleep was still interrupted by our baby's needs, the sleep I was getting was restful. I began to regain energy, which I could put into forming and following through on family routines, which supported the reduction of my overall stress.
Hydration was the catalyst to my postpartum healing journey, giving me the ability to breastfeed our son in his first year of life. My happiness began to increase and I didn’t feel like I was underperforming due to dehydration for my son.
Reflecting on the 2020 rollercoaster that was our first year of parenting amid the pandemic, I'm grateful.
Hydration benefits everyone. We founded BodyFlow Hydration in the gratitude my husband and I share for returning to basics.
Our healing journeys are uniquely ours, and from them, we were called to make the high-quality liquid minerals that have enhanced our lives more accessible and convenient for others.
